Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. She was promoted to Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She served as a panelist in the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell reported on a variety of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times for summits, and to discuss topics including that of the Iran Contra scandal.
